If you have not realised it yet, let me enlighten you.

Singaporeans. One trait i would love to change about us Singaporeans is the way we communicate to one another.

Most of us look at the Whites as a more superior being. Picking up their accents even if you spent a measly couple of years in their country.

But no matter how hard you try to be like them, you'll never succeed.
Ok, maybe you can try talking like them, or changing the colour of your hair, change your nationality. Or even get laid with a white.. but no!
Never will a Singaporean truly be like them.

And this is where it disturbs me the most. We are always so so concerned about our status. Always afraid that some other asian like yourself is much more superior than you. Or someone lower than you is getting paid more.. Because our country's assest is the people itself, competition is inevitable.

Ok ok.. so this is what happened.

Back in Secondary school, i had an Australian teacher who once mentioned this as well. She said that back in her country, whenever long lost friends or even strangers meet, they would, ask each other on stuff like,

> How are you? (Basic manners some Sporeans apparently dont aquire)
> What's your favourite past time? (I'd die to hear this from a stranger nowadays)
> Where are your common hang-out places? (Last i heared this was decades ago)

Maybe this explains why Singaporeans are so uptight and afraid to venture out even in the wilderness of Orchard Road itself.. Bcos instead of asking such questions to one another here, this is what majority of Sporeans do;

> So which institution are you in now?
> What are your plans for the future?
> Whats your salary like now?

See. No wonder Singaporeans are like that. And im sure 99.9% of people reading this are the same stereotype Singaporean im talking about.

Why im bitching about this is bcos i had a conversation with an aquaintance i havent met for 3 years? yea..

This is how it went;

Me: Helloo.. how'd you been?
Alien: Im ok. you studying now?
Me: (bored) yea... i am.. so what have you been doing lately?
Alien: im still schooling.. you lei? which school?
Me: (Super Bored & now annoyed) oh.. poly. yea..
(pause)
Me: Why issit that we Sporeans have to be so worried about status huh? (being sarcastic)
Alien: hahas.. so which poly? <---- ( wtf? )

I was pissed alright.. i quickly answered the questions and logged off right after..

So yes people... lesson learnt.. i need not elaborate further do i?

Please think for a second or two before opening that hole in your face.. esp when you're talking to someone like me.. For it might just be the last conversation you have with him... or her..
