NPC 2008

Apart from having the 3 units achiving all Silver, i personally learnt alot from the camp. Not because the camp was enriching or anything like that, but i managed to get myself to overcome challenges on my own..

As it was my very first camp away from the usual faces, i only had Junkai and Teckseng to accompany me throughout most of the camp.. And i sincerely appreciate their company. There were times when i felt lonely, but instead of dreading it, i embraced it. I took the opportunity to think of my actions and observe how things work.

I realised that during the camp, i managed to self talk. Everyone talks to themselves every now and then. But i seem to be able to lay the problem out, think of solutions and pick the best.
I used to support Greenridge only as i felt like i owe my allegiance to them, but soon learnt that my allegiance, my loyalty lies in The Fox Scout Group. And my love for Greenridge is now shared amongst the other units.

How i came to realise this was when i was walking around the campsites. Looking at the Scouts doing what they were trained to do, trying their best to obtain whatever results they could achieve. Only then did i realise that they're oblivious to all the politics we Rovers and Leaders are playing. They're boys. They're just, boys. And i soon came to fall in love with every single one of them, no matter what the crest or logo were on their shirts.

They're just Scouts. And we're there to impart our knowledge to them. And that's exactly what i'll keep doing.

They call me Rover Shidiq. Not Rover Greenridge. We sew the Fox Emblem on our chests. Not the school logo.. And maybe just once.. just this once, should we learn from them instead. To be blind to all these politics. To accept people for their differences. And to unite as one Fox Scout Group.

As the last day of the camp came, and as my mind was clear from the differences, i grabbed the opportunity to mingle with all the 3 units. Taught them afew ways to bundle the spars, helped them to pack abit and most importantly, i told them that i was there if they needed me..

It took just 5 days to make me realise all this. A lesson learnt.

And i hope all of us could take a moment each and think of the importance of being united and also the endless wonders we could achieve by doing so.

To that, i salute the NPC Teams who not only had made us all proud.

But for letting me learn something one can never educate.

Cheers!
